from idea to product: get started fast
The M2M Developer Community offers everything you need to connect machines to machines: hardware, SIM cards, and a cloud-based M2M Developer Platform. To simplify your first steps, we have compiled two starter packages. They bundle all components and services to get you started fast. If you are new to M2M and eager to experiment, choose the M2M DevStarter (Arduino).
The M2M DevStarter (Cinterion) package is intended for developers who are targeting industrial fields of application. The M2M Developer Platform (based on Cumulocity) is a cloud-based and multi-tenant environment for creating and testing M2M applications. As a horizontal platform the environment is suitable for all industries. REST-based interfaces allow you to work with your tried and trusted IDEs and use the programming languages of your choice. Access to the interfaces from Java and JavaScript is simplified by the client libraries provided and by Eclipse support.

Connect a device
Before you start developing applications with the M2M developer platform you must set up your development environment. Follow these steps and you are ready to go:
Step 1:
Order the M2M DevStarter package. It contains everything you need to develop M2M applications: a terminal (Cinterion EGS5 Java Developer Kit or Arduino GBoard Kit), a Test SIM Card and a private tenant for 6 months.
Step 2:
Download the agent for your device. The agent is a device driver that is responsible for linking devices to Cumulocity and mapping their data to the vendor- and type-neutral domain model. It is basically an abstraction layer that lets you handle different devices in the same manner. After connecting your device, you can configure it on the M2M developer platform.
Step 3:
Start developing your application. You will find extensive information about the M2M developer platform in the concepts guide, the developer’s guide and the reference guide.
