Cloud User Management Lab API

Cloud User Management Lab APIThe Cloud User Management Lab API enables developers and suppliers of Web applications to store user data and relevant profile information safely and reliably in the cloud. The User Management only needs to be integrated into your own Web application and then can be used from the cloud at any time, as required and free of charge.

  • No operating costs for administration of user data and profiles
  • Increasing range of own service with support of third-party identities (e.g., Google)
  • Simple integration into existing Web applications
  • Web-based administration interface for administering own instance and user database
  • Registration of user accounts
  • Login for registered users by means of user name and password
  • Single sign-on between several Web services of one provider
  • Self-administration for users (e.g., password reset and changes to user data)
  • Ending of sessions
  • Deletion of accounts
  • Third-party login (e.g., Facebook)
  • Use is free of charge
  • A space where you can experiment
  • Hosted on laboratory or test environments of Deutsche Telekom
  • No availability guarantee by Developer Garden
  • Changes to the scope of service may be made at any time or the service may be discontinued altogether
  • Special data-protection provisions

Here the supplier of a Web application benefits not only from low operating costs, but also from the scalability and elasticity of the Cloud User Management API. Sudden growth in the number of user registrations or massive increases in user registrations can be managed reliably. So the supplier does not have to buy in advance his own infrastructure to manage the user data, in order to cope with unforeseeable numbers of accesses.

The Cloud User Management Lab API provides the typical basic functions of user management:

  • Registration of user accounts
  • Login for registered users by means of user name and password
  • Single sign-on between several Web services of one provider
  • Self-administration for users (e.g., password reset and changes to user data)
  • Ending of sessions
  • Deletion of accounts

Cloud User Management also offers the chance to log in or register users on your own Web service with the help of identities of popular Web services like Facebook, Google or other Open ID suppliers. The “social login” is implemented in cooperation with our partner Janrain

The benefits for the supplier of a Web service are obvious: Users are no longer compelled to produce an extra user ID and corresponding password, but are able to re-use existing IDs from social networks (e.g., Facebook) or Web service providers (e.g., Google). Users who do not have such a user ID, can of course log in directly at the Web service.

Both the basic functions of the API and the social login are integrated into the Web application with the help of the so-called “login widget”. This login widget is loaded by using only a single-line HTML code (see documentation) from the Cloud User Management into the Web application and always appears at the top edge of the Web application. The appearance of the login widget can be adjusted to the Web application through CSS files. Communication between the Web application and the login widget is done via JavaScript.

The supplier of a Web service who uses Cloud User Management, can manage his instance of the User Management and the user IDs registered there with the help of an administration website which is ensured by a special admin ID.

Cloud User Management is a Developer Garden Lab API: You can access the API directly via SOAP and REST with the programming language of your choice.

Cloud User Management can be used for testing and experimenting with new App ideas free of charge and without having to activate extra services.

If you have any suggestions to make or questions to ask you can use the forum which has plenty of space for joint discussions and further development.

Special instructions for utilization of Lab APIs

With immediate effect, Developer Garden is offering so-called "Lab APIs" for use free of charge. These APIs are distinguished from commercial APIs through their experimental nature. The LAB APIs are technically hosted in laboratory or test environments of Deutsche Telekom for which no availabilities are guaranteed on the part of Developer Garden. Developer Garden reserves the right to take the Lab APIs out of operation for changes to their scope of performance, or to deactivate them altogether.

If a developer offers a service developed by himself on the basis of the Lab APIs to third parties for their utilization, the developer is then obliged to instruct his users regarding the listed stipulations.
