1. Overview
The Send SMS Windows Sidebar Gadget allows you to send text messages from your sidebar.
Send SMS uses the Developer Garden Send SMS interface and is compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
2. Functions
2.1 The gadget window
The main window contains the following elements:
- a field for the phone number to which a text message is to be sent;
- a button for opening the address book;
- a button for checking current credit;
- a text field for the message;
- a send button;
- a compressor;
- a character and text-message counter.
2.2 The address book
The address book contains the following elements:
- A button for adding new contacts;
- A list of contacts;
- Clicking on a line enters the respective phone number as the recipient;
- Buttons for selecting a contact as the recipient, editing or deleting a contact, or moving him/her up or down the address book list.
It is possible to define recipient groups, e.g.:
Name: "Max, Lieschen"
Phone number: "0123456789,0987654321"
In addition, recipient lists can be defined in CSV files. The required format is:
"Number 1"; 0123456789
"Number 2"; 0123456788
etc.
To send to the group, the name of the CSV file must be entered in the input field for the recipient (or a corresponding entry must be created in the address book).
Please note: The CSV file must be in the gadget directory.
2.3 Options menu
The options menu contains the following elements:
- User name / password: Enter your Developer Center account data in order to send text messages.
- Account selection: Sub-accounts created in the Developer Center can be used here. The "Main account" is the standard account.
- Sender ID: You can use letters and numbers (max. 11 characters) as the sender ID; if you wish to enter a phone number as the sender ID, you must validate this number beforehand.
Validating a phone number:
- Top up credit in the Developer Center.
- Validate your phone number in the gadget.
It is also possible to invalidate phone numbers in the gadget, as well as to display a list of all validated phone numbers.
- Mode: There are two modes to choose from: 10 free text messages a day or the standard rate without advertisements. In the advertisement-free mode, long text messages can be sent as a single message.
Messages can also be sent as flash messages (appear directly on your cell phone display).
- Save history: All text messages sent are stored in a text file on the hard drive.
